Finally! MOMNESIA!

Did you hear? Did you read? Did you? Did you? It is BIG news.

READ THIS: Babies can cause 'momnesia'

What is momnesia? "the mental fuzziness and memory lapses that set in shortly after childbirth"

It was on TV. It must be true. PLUS, there is medical evidence. Proof that hormones really wack us out. This is great news. I have printed out the article on colored paper, laminated it, and taped it to my fridge. I also put it next to the bed. On the mirror by hubby's sink. In his car--passenger's side. In his underwear drawer . . .

I'm not an idiot. I'm not a drooling, stumbling moron. I'm not flighty or flaky for that matter. I'm not a space cadet. I'm not a scatterbrained ditz. I'm just a mom suffering from momnesia! Yeah!!!

Could have used that proof about 9 years ago when I thought I was losing my mind! I actually told my Dr. that my brain had turned to moosh especially with 2 kids 18 mos. apart!
Now there's proof! Yay, we're not as crazy as we think!

Can you still have it four, almost five years later?

I knew it! Whew. I feel so much better!

i soooo have momnesia!! i've had it for the exact amount of years, months, weeks and days old my son is!! lol
this is very true. i've forgotten so much and can't retain new info since having my children.
it is really amazing how you just loose your mind and the things that were once in there. ;)
see my post today, well there were two, but the last one says, not only have i lost my mind... but now i've lost the camera too. and really i have lost both. ;) aww well at least i know, sort of, well roughly where my children are today. lol just kidding, i know where they are at all times.
this was a good post, it made me feel "normal" again. :)
hugs, jenn

AND, did you hear it's supposed to make your brain better and make you even smarter in the process? That's what they said on the news! Finally, something good that happens to your body because of pregnancy, unlike stretch marks, saggy boobs, hair falling out,...sheesh!

By the time I clicked "post a comment" I already forgot what I was going to say...

Oh, now I know, great finding! Now I feel much better!

AWESOME! I knew I wasn't wacked out. Well maybe I am but now like PMS I have something to blame my life on!

I'm so thankful it now has a name. And guess what? It keeps getting worse. If I have another child, I'll not be able to do anything without a list. Brush teeth, check. Brush hair, check. Tie shoes, check. Eat lunch...oh wait, I'll never forget to eat:) Happy Friday!

I new it wasn't my fault! ha ah

Kristi said...

Actually, I have heard of it, caused by surging hormones. I'm with Tommin in that I think it hasn't gone away three years later.

Angela DeRossett said...

Oh me too!!! And to Tommie...yes, it's permanent. LOL Permanent brain damage caused by the lack of sleep.LOL

So four babies... It's a wonder I even know my name anymore. Wait, what's my name, oh yeah, it's MOOOOMMM!!

I saw that on TV!

Tommie stole my question! I totally still have symptoms almost 18 months after giving birth!! I swear my darling children killed off almost every last brain cell that I had! Damn...

So it is Momnesia!! LOL, I'm going to print this out and keep it for future use too.

S said...

Heh. I STILL have it, and I've been a mother for ten years now.

Whew! Thanks for that post! I was afraid that I was suffering from early onset Alzheimers.

Ha! How do I explain my forgetful moments before I got pregnant? Husband: Why is the aluminum foil in the freezer?
Me: I don't know, why?
Husband: You must have put it there.
Me: Oh...

I'm so happy to hear there is a diagnosis for my problem.

I do that thing with the crazy-expensive engraving EVERY year. EVERY year I wait until Christmas ornaments are 90% off then wonder what the heck I was thinking when I pay a fortune for engraving. WTH is wrong with me?

Oh, wait. You answered that. Momnesia.

I am too - a lot of the time. " It was like I left my body and a complete idiot took my place." - this was so funny and how I feel some of the time too!!

Thanks so much for coming by today - and, thanks for your thoughts and prayers for my sweet nephew. Hope you are having a good weekend - see you later. Kellan

The thing about Momnesia is you HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT IS GOING TO STRIKE! It is so freaking RANDOM!

I read your update. I think your check card belongs where I found mine,....in the garbage. HA! Just kidding. I hope y'all had a great time. I thought about you while I've been hearing about all the snow up there. I hope you enjoyed it. We never get enough snow to matter.

Hi, thanks for your post! Momnesia is crazy! I know someone has already commented on this, but I just want to reiterate it again: It's so nice to see that I am not the only crazy one out here having stupid moments!

Cynthia said...

I have it!

Laski said...

This weekend was a true testament to my momnesia . . . no doubt! Thank goodness my condition has a name. That's all I can say. I must've said, "But I've got momnesia," about a dozen times or more . . .

tracey.becker1@gmail.com said...

Cool. I have the same diagnosis, apparently....

I love how they "announce" things on the news. As if we didn't all know that being a mom kills brain cells?

Misty said...

I am going to use this medical term in every other sentence now. Watch me.

Aliki2006 said...

Oh yes, momnesia--I know it well! It lingers on quite awhile, too, and you can suffer from it even when your kids are, say 7...

Mighty Morphin' Mama said...

Amen Sista'!
and I don't think it really goes away, either. ugh.

Kristen said...

That is the best news! I swear it started for me the same week I found out I was pregnant!

You should post a link to the info, and we can all print it on colored paper, and laminate it for its perfect display on the fridge!!

Again, glad to know I am not nuts!

huddtoo said...

I "skimmed" the article (hey, I SHOULD be working). Interesting. But, OH SO TRUE! I recall the phrase "mommy brain" and I know I've uttered it! hehe Now we have a real name for it. WHOO HOO! ;)

Now, can I say, I wouldn't want to be the lady in the article. I'd just not want that last name!

Marmarbug said...

Teehee! I TAGGED you! That's what happens when you become my newest blog pal!

Anonymous said...

I started getting momnesia while pregnant. I think they need to realize it starts WAY before they're born! LOL!

How did I miss this post! I think I have this every day!
