In the news . . .
I don't want to eat cloned meat or drink milk from a cloned cow - - - even if the FDA says it is safe (because you know, they are always right) or even if it is from the offspring and not the actual cloned animal (like that makes a big difference). This really bothers me.
Not to jump on the "freak out" train, but as a new mom I am concerned about what is in our environment, our food, that may impact growing bodies (or bodies in general). Again, I didn't throw out all my milk and meat or not get J his vaccinations upon reading/listening to all the hype about the connections to diseases,syndromes,conditions,illnesses... (again, the media really goes nuts with this stuff), but logic dictates that there may be some level of concern. I realize that the rise in certain conditions (such as Autism/Autism Spectrum) might just be coincidental or linked to professionals becoming more proficient in diagnosing such conditions, but can we say that for absolute, 100% certainty? I'm not so sure.
As an average everyday person and a mom, I want to take it all in, research it, think about it, let it marinate a little, and then make a decision. I don't jump on any bandwagons, nor do I out and out dismiss anything.
Did you know that if your processed foods (which is a huge portion of what we eat) contain corn or soy beans then it is highly likely that it is genetically modified?!? Maybe I knew this, but never really thought (or allowed myself to think) about it. I mean, I guess genetically modified corn or soy beans seems less harmful than genetically modified cows, but it still bothers me. Again, authorities say it is safe . . . well, they know everything, don't they? How do you avoid it--100% organic.
It seems every day life gets a little more complicated . . . and all I want is a darned hamburger, with cheese, some fries, and a Coke. A veggie burger, some carrot sticks, and a purified bottle of water just don't cut it . . .
So, what do you think?

I hate having to think about it...and the cost of organic foods makes my budget cringe. *sigh* What's a mom to do?
I so agree with you on this one. You can't possibly mess with an animal's genetic material and not have some repercussions.
It is overwhelming the things we have to think about! There is so much we can't control--it drives me nuts!
And everyone wonders why strange diseases, cancer, and such is on the rise.
So scary.
I am not one of those that jumps on the bandwagon, BUT I did just start buying organic milk.
With the high price of milk these days, organic milk is only about $.75 more.
I am slowly starting with the whole organic process....
For me the whole organic thing isn't just about the taste (althought that is a big part)... the cost is what makes me turn my nose up! Our grocery bill is already outrageous and we don't buy anything organic!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I feel the same way. I worry that by the time our child is an adult, food will hardly be "food" anymore....
I just noticed that your post title did not rhyme today. HA!
I may be about to getstamped with the "bad mommy" label, but I generally don't worry about those sorts of things. I make most every thing from scratch, and we buy few "prepared" items. And, I think by nature, I don't worry about those kinds of things.... I worry more about my kid's grades, if they are making friends, are they learning to be kind, etc., then I do about what they eat.
I don't think the plant stuff bothers me, but I'm not big on cloning an animal. I'm not sure why it is different in my mind though. Anyway- I agree that a veggie burger and carrots sticks doesn't cut it for me- I want a burger, fries and soda! Oh, my mouth is watering already!
Wow! you really throw out the tough stuff! My blog must be so boring to you!
Lindsey . . . I know. I already broke my "record" with rhyme. Fear not!!! I shall continue this trend soon enough! Hmmm...maybe next I'll go for alliteration???
Pam . . . oh, don't be misled. I have no idea where some of this stuff comes from. One minute I'm singing the praises of solid poop and stringy drool and the next minute I'm analyzing the economic situation of Zimbabwe (OK, not that last part . . . ).
We try to eat as organic and natural as possible. We have eliminated high fructose corn syrup from 90% of the kids' diet. It has made a world of difference in the kid's behavior!!
I don't want to eat anything from anthing cloned either!!! I couldn't agree more with you - I just want to be able to eat and not worry about the wierdness of it all!! Great post!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving the nice comment. It's very nice to see you and I hope to see more of you soon. Take care. Kellan
I need to look into this more, it's kinda creepy in a way.
Totally on your page...It's so hard to find milk that isn't from cow's who have been given growth hormones...They just keep makin' it harder to be a Mom.
Misty--You mean we have to worry about that too!?! UGH. This mom thing is hard enough . . . and now we have all this other stuff. My head hurts . . .
Oh, and as for "bad mommy" label . . .from what I see you are far from it!!!
Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it to stress, ya know? Everything in moderation. Potentially one could find out they were dying tomorrow and he'd eat those beef burgers, steaks and fries everyday for the rest of his life cuz he WANTS to. And that could be any of us. Besides, I've been reading many reports lately about fraud organic farmers. You just never know about anything anymore.
Yes. I am concerned about eating cloned food. Have you read Animal Vegetable Mineral by Barbara Kingsolver? Great book that goes somewhat into the politics of food production.
I try to grow some of my own, we are in a CSA program and we buy all organic-no BGH dairy. It is expensive yes....but so is paying for health issues that crop up later if we don't take care of ourselves now.
Mary Alice - - - I haven't read it, but I'm going to check it out now! Thanks for telling me about it!
I actually came close to blogging on this a few times this week. You really did it justice... I agree 100%!
OK--I may be blogging on this soon. I may attempt "Going Green and Toxic Free" . . . It might be virtually impossible, but I can give it a shot. Helping the environment and our health, even in small ways, might be worth it.
