I've discussed my lack of fashion sense on a few occasions.
I was serious.
I wasn't kidding.
But, I was being slightly dishonest.
You see, I used to be quite the stylish young lass (yes, I used lass in a sentence and the year is 2008). I was what many would term "fashion forward."
And.
I have evidence.
Exhibit A:
I rocked this outfit from head to toe, did I not? Even my red and rainbow striped bag is hip . . . and would be on the arm of celebrity divas of today, I have no doubt. Notice my over-sized buckle, the "fur" lined boots, the knitted cap. And of course, my model smirk. And my entire ensemble is set off nicely by the multi-colored carpeting adorning the stairs and the nicotine-stained walls.
Gorgeous.
Exhibit B:
First, I must make special note of Fluffy. He is so special he had a post all his own.
My hair has always been the bane of my existence. I have been lost in a sea of bad hair days with a few decent hair days thrown in to prevent me from taking a razor to my scalp. Ode to the hair gods . . .
This was clearly one of my shining moments. I mean, I'm a 10! There are some people who have no idea what I am talking about and rather than feel old and decrepit, I am just going to enlighten you . . .
The resemblance is simply uncanny, isn't it?

And I leave you with that.

I love that Twain comment. And the oversized buckle. I dressed (or was dressed) very similar in those days.
In a boy kind of way, of course.
Love the cornrows. The outfit in the first photo would be every bit fashionable today. You rawk!
You look too cute, you were an absolutely adorable little girl and seriously fashionable.
I had cornrows, too. Don't feel bad. We were soooo cool :-)
Thanks for the prayers.
didn't you used to braid your hair to get crimps before there were irons to do the job? That is what we did in the day!
You were a fashion maiden! Thanks for sharing!
Cool photos! Happy PSF!
Now, if we could just get the conrows and boots TOGETHER in the same outfit that would be SPECTACULAR!!!
This post comes on the perfect day when my hair is an absolute disaster!
LOVE the pics! And love the quotes. :)
I love the first photo of you as a child! You did rock that outfit! Thanks fr sharing!
I had those EXACT same boots and I LOVED them. Don't knock the boots.
Al's comment rocks..as does Twain -- seriously, that guy was a genius..umm...I mean they both were, but you know what I mean!
Love the styling outfit. I'm still trying to decide whether to mock myself for one of these things or not. Hmmmm....you did it so tastefully, maybe I will.
FANTASTIC!!
love the Mark Twain quote!
and YES i want that chair...
The first picture is priceless...then add the braids in the second picture and you are the most fashion forward person I know.
You know the saying "everything old is new again?" Yeah, except for us...we're not so new anymore...:)
Laski, your boots in that first shot ROCK. Oh, wait, they RAWK. And they're HAWT.
And you ARE a 10!! Cornrows are awesome.
This is awesome! I particularly love the one of you in the boots and hat. Seriously stylin'...
Those boots are cute!
I used to want curly hair, so my mom would braid my hair like that while it was wet. When it would dry, it would be wavy!
Happy Friday!
that Einstein quote is fantastic! i've never read it before.
and I think we DID have that chair
HA! Love this, and you were screaming style in that first one. I mean who knows how to accessorize at that age. You were light years ahead of your time. Why, it was just last week I purchased a second purse and have been trying to coordinate ever since.
And I am 34.....
I bow to you, oh fashion goddess!
There's nothing like an outfit that makes you feel all that. The 70's were certainly perfect for that feeling!
OMG, we had the same couch growing up! It finally reached the end of it's life in my boyfriend's college apartment. Good times.
I beg to differ; I have four kids whose very existence attest to the fact that nakedness has a huge influence on some people. Just sayin'.
HAH I did know the 10 ref to Bo. And, RIP to the very brilliant Gilda Radner. Those boots would be killer today. Very Ugg like. And, I question your questioning of lass. I use lass daily.
Dude. I heartcha.
I can't decide WHICH I like more. The groovy boots or the dreadlock hair.
This was a hoot!!
I know you're incredibly proud of your first look but trust me (I went to fashion school) It's a little over done dear. ;)
Goodness I loved me some Dudley Moore!
Haha, I was TOTALLY going to respond with that Twain comment, but I see you're already familiar with it! Awesome post!
Well, I think you were one stylin' kid!
The quotes were awesome!
I loved this post!
You are just too funny!
And heck yes you are rockin' that 70's outfit! :)
I think we were born around the same time - something makes me think this.
Cute post!
This was a very creative post and your quotes are great! What goes around comes around...the boots are in..and the hair!!!still!!!
Trust me, if I would around naked I would certainly influence people to buy blindfolds.
Loved it, all of it! You are a 10 and I can totally relate to the bad hair days!
Enjoyed your PSF very much. And when I see 70's fashion (my older sister and husband) I find myself ever so slightly happy that I was made in the 80's instead. ;) (not that it was that much better)
That's hawtness right there. You know - I usually try to look fairly decent. I mean - hawt but in a practical kind of way (like my clothes may be cute but they sure as hell aren't dry clean only or my shoes are always flats). Anyway, the other day I was totally slumming it and I looked homeless whereas Sumo? Looked amazing with totally cute clothes. I was totally traumatized. I MUST FIGHT THE FRUMP! Time to redo my underwear drawer again!
You do come across rather 10ish. I'm left wondering about myself and my emergence into fashion. Does duck go with plaid? I'm thinking it's hot.
And I'm left wondering how I found you the other day. I've no recollection. (That's my Reagen impresonation.) But really, I simply made my way here, weirdly, early for dinner and on my own. Glad I did.

Awe.... I love your smirk. You were so fashionable.
I have to agree with both Al and Mark. But where does that leave me?
I love that first pic! CUTE! I have zero fashion sense so I get a kick of these posts!
I love the 70s outfit! You did rock it!
I am a fashion fan -- used to design and sew my own clothes based on what I liked in fashion mags but couldn't afford.
You couldn't tell that now. I spend most days in a single color shirt and jeans on khaki shorts.
It takes attitude to rock the cornrows at age 10. You were one of the cool kids - there's no way you weren't.
Holy fashionista Batman!
I can totally see Bo Derek in your cornrows...partly because I had them, too. :) Also? Looooove me some Gilda Radner, Albert Einstein, and Mark Twain. Mr. Twain is right, though...well, except for the "Girls Next Door" but he could never see them coming.
I'm cracking up at the Bo Derek hair girl! Hahaha!
Brave woman :)
Great quotes.
Love your 70s fashion sense.
You look like coolio with the dreadlocks.
we been spending most our lives, living in a gangsta's paradise
rap that shit.
or not, whatever works for you really.
honey please you are ahead of your time - the outfit in the first pic - totally in style today!!
maybe you should dig out some other pictures so we know what to dress in next season :)
You are a 5 x 2. Go you! :)
Ah, Bo Derek. Whatever happened to her? And Gilda Radner--I loved her when she was alive, and I still do, 22 years after her death. A comic genius!
Oh that first outfit is practically couture! I have no fashion sense, either. I need Tim Gunn. Badly.
At quick glance I saw the photo of the woman in the bikini and I thought WOW, L has been working out.
That is a compliment. Sort of.
Maybe not?
I like the hair!
You know, you got to love any post with Bo Derek in it.
I dig your hair.
Plus, if you're lame, so am I. My hair looks that way NOW.
Great post.
I don't know about naked people having no influence on society. Take Lady Godiva, for instance. Her chocolates have made a huge influence on my hips and thighs ...
OMG, we had that same chair and matching couch. It was some bizarre form of plasticized pseudo-tweed. Only in the 70's...
