PhotoStory Friday: What lies ahead

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

The following photos were taken on the same day. We had a huge storm. Both T and I were wondering how J would take the sound of the heavy rains and crashing thunder. It didn't phase him one bit. He went on playing . . . no worries.

After the clouds parted and sun peaked through, we piled in the car and headed down our old and winding road toward the park.

Both shots are from oddly similar perspectives. I am looking toward J as he makes his way to the end of the tunnel. He is looking to me . . . he is looking ahead. In the second shot, we are also looking ahead as we head for a day in the park with J.

I started thinking about how J showed no fear when the thunder hit. Me. I have fear. I have worries. I had many before he came along, but now, I have many more that often come to rest upon my shoulders.

I wonder what it would be like to look ahead without a worry in the world?

Imagine . . .
Relishing in his two-toothed grin as he makes his way to the end of the tunnel.
Appreciating the vibrant greens after an afternoon downpour.
Smelling the rain as it mists away from the summer heat.
Filling your heart with joy at the sound of his laughter as a family of ducks crosses his path.
Snuggling into a deep sleep, him cuddled in your arms, not a worry in the world.

Looking ahead, but most definitely . . .

Living in the moment.

It is amazing how fearless they are! Living in the moment...well said.

Oh, and that first shot is the cutest!

Exactly what Bren said. When you're so young, you are immortal and living la vida loca - FEARLESSLY. Love those shots Laski!

First of all, that first shot is fan-stinkin'-tastic!

And your observations are beautifully and perfectly written. I know exactly where you are coming from. Exactly.

Nicely said and done. Living in the moment is the best place to be.

Good photos. Fear is normal, it keeps us safe, we just have to learn to live with the right amount.

Well said. I am reading a book on this subject right now. I am so impressed with the way you made living in the moment so important, but so enticing! I can't wait for the next afternoon storm, just to see what the world looks like right after. I'm not sure I ever really stopped to look...

a bit of fear is healthy. Living in the moment is something I need to do more of. Great post.

What a great post; and I agree about the fear thing. Didn't actually have a lot of fear until I started having kids, and now I have a reason to be afraid. It is terrible and lovely at the same time to love people so much.

love the pics. and having him not be afraid of thunder is a good thing... now if we as parents could drop some of our fear in live in the moment just like our kids... life would be good

Great photo love the angle!! Little Man is adorable -
I agree we should live in the moment instead of worrying about what could or should happen in the future - NOW is what counts make the most of it!!

great pictures! and such a perfect post too. I was just thinking this yesterday as I watched my oldest running thru the sprinkler w/out a care in the world. He was just so happy and carefree!

i think i need to go run thru that sprinkler myself!

i wonder also. I think before it is even fair, children have worries. :( my son has been asking about what will happen why his dad or I die. I'm not sure where he gets this from, there has been no talk of death around him... it breaks my heart that he even has one little tiny worry, like being nervous to swim all the way across the pool to his dad on his own, let alone worrying about us dying and where he will live and what will happen to his sisters and the dog. :(

ON a much lighter note... I love the pictures. the one of J in the tunnel is adorable, as always.

and the one of looking down the road, is beautiful. :)

i hope that you all enjoyed the park!!

I really like this post and your thoughts behind it.

I can't believe how fearless my little one is.

Last night, after he was pushed off the jungle gym and wanted to go back, I just kept thinking about all the horrid things that can happen to him and wondering if I'm the only mother who wants to put her baby in a bubble because she is so worried something might happen to him.

Maybe I'm just a freak.

Anyhow...I loved these photos and the post.

I am loving that first photo. A picture is truly worth a thousand words.

Great post!

I read somewhere once, that children live in the now. They don't have the capibilities to wonder what lies ahead, or worry about the past.

I thought your post captured that too. I need to try and live my life more in the right now. Not what will happen next week. :)

Great job, I loved it!

Yes, I have so many new worries since having children. It would be so nice to let them go, even for a few moments.

It's amazing how some kids show no fear at thunderstorms. My son is the same way. Doesn't blink at the lightening or jump at the thunder. Maybe when he gets older it will occur to him to be scared but the innocence of not being scared is very precious indeed. :)

Thanks for stopping by my spot. They are doing dresses now. It's pretty cool, actually. I think the city grew on me a little bit because of it to be honest. It reminded me of being in NYC.

I still love corn despite the fact that it appears to be popping up everywhere I look now.

Love the pics of your little guy. What a cutie!

Oooh, love this Laski. What a fantastic thought. If only it were that easy ... to have that fearless trust in the world.

Such a great post! We were actually sort of talking about that last night. Little Elvis has absolutely no fear, and it's a little scary at the moment. I love that he's fearless, but it's awful when he falls off the furniture because he climbed up and then tried to just walk off before I could catch him.

Awww... living the moment is the best. LOVE the tunnel shot.

you're so right! it's such a good thing to look at our children's perspectives and realize that we could actually learn so much from them!

thanks for stopping by my place...your comment touched me!

love that first shot! It is amazing when you stop and realize how much they are depending on you...so fearlessly trusting that you are going to be there.

It makes me want to be the mom they think I am! (vs the one who loses it after telling them to quick bickering 40,087 times!)

You were once that little tot that didn't have worries....but now you grew up.

I wish we had of no worries, no hate, no anomosity.

I worry about a mosiquito giving my daughter west nile so I spray the poor kid down every 2 hours, then I worry about the chemicals. I am a worry wart with no hope. I worry that a scratch on her leg will get infected and she will lose a leg.

I am not kidding about this either. Writing it down makes me feel like a loser. Great. Loser is going to bed now.

and I'm with you on the storms...I try really hard to not flinch or cringe w/the lightning or thunder so that I don't scare the kids with my response.
